Haemanthus sanguineus

There is a wonderful flush of H.sanguineus in the burnt area around the Gifkloof track, just before the gun club. Also some Brunsvigia orientalis. They look even more attractive seen against the black background. They are usually  mostly hidden from view in the long grass.

  1. Could Greytonian please photograph the current display of Brunsvigia on the Vlei Street commonage for a photographic record that could be used in future to prove that this land is not mere fallow wasteland ripe for residential development. It belongs to the blue cranes and owls, the annual Brunsvigia, the seasonal cep mushrooms, the small buck and the occasional lazy grass snake - and, of course,Greytonians. -Snooper.

  3. Oh dear, Greytonian.Snooper could not open your long address link. Maybe I'm too old. Is is working? Perhaps you can put it on your Photographs blog.

  4. Dear Snooper - the link works fine. Do not try to copy it by hand - far too laborious and prone to errors. Just copy and paste in to the top line of your browser..... Good luck, and if you still cannot manage I will add a copy to the photographic section.. Grey Panther

  5. Thank you, Grey Panther(?). Your instructions worked better for me this morning without wine. I have posted comments at the pic site.- Snooper

  6. A full scale image of your Vlei Street Brunsvigia photo would be appreciated, Grey Panther. Not for publication, of course, but for painting. Emerging artists would appreciate you posting selected local landscapes which you photograph while on your exclusive environmenal walkabouts. - Village Constable

  7. Dear Village Constable, I'm afraid the original is not much better from the artistic composition point of view, so I have added another picture of a single flower taken a couple of years ago which may be of help?
